Pastor JR issued an amazing challenge and opportunity to us at Freedom on Sunday.
In 2 weeks, August 17th, he challenged us, and our reputation at Freedom, to have 350 people that morning.
And no, it’s not about numbers, its about coming 350 people closer to the 90,000 people within a 5 mile radius of North Metro Tech who are far from God.
This challenge hit home with me because it is something I have been wrestling with a lot lately. (James 1:2-4)
We work the same boring routine everyday, never being challenged.
We give just enough money to the church so that we can still feel comfortable.
When we talk to friends, family, and other people, sometimes we don’t even mention anything about what God is doing in our lives.
Why not…
…live on the edge and give all the energy you have to go above and beyond what is expected.
…give just enough money so that you can barely make it through the end of the month.
…let the first thing that comes out of your mouth be “Hey. God is working on something HUGE in my life. I HAVE to tell you about it!”
Why don’t we push ourselves to the point in which we have nothing left to offer and live on FAITH alone.
This blog post is speaking to me directly about 7 months ago…
(Cue wavy lines floating across the TV resembling traveling back in time. Kind of like That 70’s Show, except not really.)
My faith would go as far as I felt safe to go.
I had a lid and a 50 pound weight on my jar, keeping me from stretching myself and growing.
I got extremely tired and fed up with it.
Of living a life where the bare minimum expected would suffice.
Where I would only do the things I felt “comfortable” doing.
I don’t feel comfortable going up to strangers houses, giving them cookies and inviting them to church, but I love doing it because it is showing people that we care about them.
Legitimately care about them.
Like, “Hey, I really really don’t want you to go to Hell” type of caring.
I ended that by giving a sum of money, extremely huge to me being a college student and not having any money whatsoever, to a cause I didn’t even really fully understand yet, but believed in with all my heart. (Insert FreedomChurch logo… BAM!)
Around 7 months ago, Pastor JR challenged us, a group of 40 people, to give $15,000 in one night to help support the launch and vision of FreedomChurch.
Needless to say, God showed up, AND HE SHOWED UP BIG!
We raised over $20,000… between 40 people… a week before Christmas!
I serve a HUGE God!
3 weeks later, I got a bonus from my work that equaled the amount I had given…
I serve a HUGE God!
If we as a church aren’t putting our reputations on the line, then we aren’t living by faith.
For me, this challenge scares the living daylights out of me, but I trust the man God has appointed as my Pastor.
And even more, I trust a God who parted the red sea, turned water into wine and hung on a cross.
August 17th, God is going to show up, and he is going to show up BIG. Are you in?
Are you ready for the most inspirational, motivating, and absolutely phenomenal post ever to be posted on this blog? Come no further, it’s here.
The Inspiration: The V-neck T-shirt, Teva sandals, this song and Todd Lollis.
The Concept: I will wear the V-neck for 5 days to beat my previous record of 4 days.
The Reward: Satisfaction that I can pull off the V-neck for more than 3 days.
The Point: Prove that the V-neck is both versatile and the most comfortable T you will ever wear. Period.
History: The V-neck t-shirt was originally designed in the 1200’s as a alternative to the thick wool shirts people used to wear. It was designed with the neck whole in the shape of a “V” to give you upper torso the ability to breath on those hot days. The V-neck was soon after lost to the world. Until recently in the past few years it has been reborn in the fashion industry. I am now officially bringing it to my life and those of you who read this blog.
Here it is world, the official Ian Schneider V-neck challenege.
Day 1:
I had the honor and privelage to go watch, listen and learn from one of the most creative and revolutionary churchs in the United States the past couple of days.
The guys at Elevation Church opened up there doors and people to poor into us at Freedom.
I had the opportunity to meet with Ryan, Wes, and Meredith in their creative department.
It was great to learn from them and be encouraged in what God is doing through Freedom.
I have been stretched, pulled, slapped in the face and molded into a new leader this weekend with one purpose; to Love God, Love Others, and Serve Acworth and the World.
It was awesome to see a whole new level of honor and culture through these people.
Now it’s time…
My blog, wordled.
These are the words that come up the most.
